Not every red ant is a little fire ant. Tropical fire ants nest in the ground and sting around your ankles. Little fire ants fall from above and sting your neck and shoulders. We confirm the species first, because the wrong product on the wrong ant does nothing at all.

Only about 10% of a colony is out foraging at any moment. A contact spray kills those and leaves every queen untouched, which is why the ants are back within days. We bait so the colony carries the treatment home to its queens. That is what actually collapses a supercolony.

Little fire ant control on Maui & Hawaiʻi Island
The little fire ant (Wasmannia auropunctata) is listed by the IUCN among the world’s 100 worst invasive species. It reached Hawaiʻi Island in the 1990s and is now established from Puna through to Kona, with detections across Maui. It builds no visible mound — it nests in trees, rock walls, potted plants, palm fronds and irrigation lines. That is why most homeowners don’t find it until they are already being stung.
